Douglas Norman McLaughlin from Windsor, Ontario, was born in March 1921. He served with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion, which was the only Canadian Army unit to fight in the Battle of the Bulge. He was killed in action on the 24th March 1945, aged 22, during "Operation Varsity" the airborne assault crossing of the Rhine.

The Battalion won its only Victoria Cross (Cpl. F.G. Topham) on the 24th March – which was the day of the initial 'drop'.

The Cross is in pretty good (GVF) condition - there's some discolouration to the reverse. It's on its original ribbon and in its original case of issue.
